Dominion Youth Services (“DYS”) is a leading provider of behavioral and mental health services primarily to the youth and adolescent market in Virginia.  The Company provides a comprehensive array of professional services to Virginia’s children and young adults dealing with behavioral health, educational, and mental health challenges, as well as those with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities.  Services include school, clinic and home-based counseling for those at risk or suffering from mental illness, psychiatric consultation, life skills training, mentoring, services for individuals with autism, programs for those with intellectual disabilities, educational services including private day schools, and independent living services for young adults.

The Situation

The founders and owners of DYS believed that the business was at a stage where it needed a partner with the operational and strategic resources to capitalize on the growing market for behavioral health services.

The Company was an attractive investment opportunity to Century Park due to (i) its demonstrated high growth potential in a diverse set of services, (ii) its unique position as a quality provider with a strong reputation within the state of Virginia, and (iii) the opportunity to professionalize the business and create a more valuable enterprise.

  • Growing awareness of behavioral health issues and treatment in youth population
  • Deep and diverse relationships with key referral sources (local communities, government agencies, and school districts)
  • Highly fragmented industry provides plentiful consolidation opportunities

How We Helped

CPC evaluated the transaction with the help and guidance of Dr. Peter Zucker from its Executive Council. Dr. Zucker has over 35 years of experience in the behavioral health care industry as a clinical professional, executive, and entrepreneur. He was co-founder and CEO of Stars Behavioral Health Group, one of the largest for-profit behavioral health care organizations in California.  He serves as Chairman of the Board and is extremely involved in strategic planning and working with CPC to execute on its Value Creation Blueprint.

CPC seeks to accelerate DYS’s growth by systematizing the business and providing a strategy-based plan to expand services and locations.  To accomplish this, CPC will look to enhance the management team, increase market share and expand DYS’s geographic footprint, implement operational process improvements and pursue add-on acquisitions.
